Initial Consultation
I don't charge for the initial consultation. I do this because psychotherapy is such a personal thing and it is important that you and I are comfortable working with each other.
I like to spend the first session understanding what problems you would like to work on. Then we can explore how we might do this and to answer any questions you have about me or the process. Some clients come for the initial consultation, find it isn’t what they want and choose not to continue.
However, I must say it is also unrealistic to expect that a single (or even a handful of sessions) is going to provide the lasting changes you are probably looking for. It takes us a while to develop a pattern we don't like in ourselves; it will almost always take a while to change it.
My standard fees
My standard fee for sessions is $95 for a 50 minute session. Whilst I don't offer Medicare rebates, my fees compare well with the Australian Psychological Society recommended fee for a 50 minute session of $212 (bearing in mind some or all of these fees may be refunded through Medicare's Better Access Initiative). When you compare my fees to someone else's, check how much both will leave you out-of-pocket.
Deductions and rebates
I have a Medibank provider number, so a portion of my fees may be rebatable through them - check your extras plan for details. My fees are not rebatable through Medicare, although they can be tax deductible for some people.
Concessional rates are available
Concession rates are also available that take account of your circumstances.
If this of interest and you'd like to discuss this with me or make an appointment, my contact details are here.
